Mazak to open Mazak Innovation Hub R&D facility in 2027

September 8, 2026

Mazak announced on September 3 that it plans to open a research and development facility, “Mazak Innovation Hub,” in Oguchi, Aichi Prefecture, in August 2027. The four-story facility will have a total floor area of 18,200 square meters and represent a total investment of JPY 16 billion.
By bringing together research, design, and prototyping functions and diverse talent and technologies, the hub will efficiently advance research into next-generation technologies and the development of innovative products.

Fostering communication among employees

The office will feature a varied layout incorporating sofas, high counters, and other furnishings to encourage natural communication among employees and create an environment where each individual can work with greater autonomy. Circulation paths will run throughout the floor, while meeting areas will be positioned in high-traffic locations to promote spontaneous interaction and information sharing across departments and generations, fostering co-creation and innovation.
Through these environmental improvements, Mazak aims to enhance employee creativity and engagement, contributing to the attraction and development of top talent.

Strengthening collaboration from design to mass production

The office adjacent to the machine tool prototyping and evaluation area will feature large windows overlooking the actual machines on the floor, allowing employees to remain closely connected to the machines under development while working. The environment is designed to encourage employees from each development department to actively exchange ideas in front of actual machines and rapidly prototype and verify the ideas generated. By strengthening collaboration across design, prototyping, evaluation, and mass production, the facility will shorten development lead times and enable rapid response to market needs, supporting the development of highly competitive products.

Advancing open innovation

A dedicated collaboration area will be established to promote technology exchange and joint development with external partners, including research institutions and suppliers. The area will support ongoing dialogue and co-creation activities, accelerating open innovation while contributing to the development of personnel with advanced expertise.
Within the collaboration area, security measures will be implemented for each meeting room. Areas with machines installed will be positioned adjacent to the meeting rooms, enabling technology exchange using actual equipment. Partitions will be placed around the machines, along with other measures to ensure confidentiality.
