Panasonic Connect launched the AI-powered “Bead Eye M edition,” a weld appearance inspection solution, on June 15.
“Bead Eye M edition” uses proprietary AI technology to assess weld bead appearance quality. No complex settings are required, and initial setup for weld inspection can be completed in approximately one hour. The system detects welding defects and weld bead geometry with high accuracy, with a maximum error of 0.7 mm, contributing to more reliable quality assurance.
Multiple parameters, including weld bead length and width, are evaluated numerically. This eliminates variations in inspection results between inspectors, enabling appearance inspection to be carried out according to a consistent standard. All inspection data is automatically saved and can be used for traceability and data analysis, supporting quality improvement initiatives.
Weld bead inspection has traditionally relied heavily on visual checks by skilled workers, creating challenges such as inconsistent pass/fail standards and difficulties in transferring expertise. By addressing these challenges inherent in manual inspection, the system helps prevent defective products from being shipped and supports high-quality manufacturing.
