Amada Machinery launches VCSAW-160 vertical band saw with significantly faster cutting speeds

September 28, 2026

Amada Machinery launched the “VCSAW-160” vertical band saw on September 15.

The machine adopts a new structure that minimizes the blade’s twist angle, significantly reducing the load on the blade body. This achieves both longer blade life and higher blade speed, enabling high-speed operation at 300 meters per minute. The cutting speed for structural carbon steel is 11.6 times that of a conventional general-purpose band saw and 2.2 times that of a carbide circular saw.

The machine is also equipped with a high-output blade motor rated at 22 kW — approximately twice the output of conventional band saws and carbide circular saws. The design incorporates higher blade tension to suppress deflection of the cutting surface. In addition, Amada’s proprietary insert-style blade guide suppresses wear and reduces the load on the drive motor.

A dedicated band saw blade, the “AXCELA VC-MS,” has also been developed. Optimization of the blade material, tooth geometry, cutting edge coating, and special gullet treatment achieves both high-speed cutting and extended blade life. The thin-blade design, with a blade thickness of 2.1 mm, reduces the kerf width by approximately 22% compared with conventional circular saw blades, improving material yield and contributing to reduced waste.
