Star Micronics launches sk-51 lathe with expanded machining diameter

January 7, 2019

Supports machining of large-diameter cylindrical workpieces

Star Micronics has released the “SK-51,” a spindle fixed automatic lathe designed for machining thick and short cylindrical components. The machine is capable of handling workpieces with a maximum diameter of 51 mm, making it suitable for large-diameter parts used in the automotive and construction machinery industries.

Enhanced functionality with twin turret and optional B-axis

The SK-51 features two turret-type tool posts, each with 12 stations, enabling flexible tool selection. An optional model is also available with a 4-face turret equipped with a B-axis, which supports diagonal machining and simultaneous 5-axis operations.

Improved accessibility and operability

To enhance workability, the machine bed design has been optimized to reduce the distance from the machine front to the spindle. Additionally, large slide doors have been adopted for better accessibility and ease of use during operation.
