On October 4, 2018, Mitsubishi Motors announced it would expand production facilities at its affiliated plant in West Java, Indonesia. The company plans to invest approximately 4 billion yen to support the expansion.
The initiative aims to increase annual production capacity from 160,000 units to 200,000 units by 2020.
A key driver of the expansion is the XPANDER, a multi-purpose minivan (MPV) that has seen strong sales in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. Mitsubishi Motors launched the XPANDER in Indonesia in August 2017, and by the end of September 2018, cumulative orders had exceeded 100,000 units.
The increased production will allow the company to meet growing demand in the region and further strengthen its position in the Southeast Asian automotive market.
