On October 4, 2018 Honda announced that it would establish a new production line at the plant of affiliated corporation in India, where motorcycles have been manufactured and sold. The new production line will be set up at the fourth plant in Gujarat, specializing in scooters.
The investment amount is approximately 9.7 billion yen. The new production line will be expected to operate by 2020.
India accounts for about 30% of the global demand for motorcycles, and Honda is expecting further growth in India market, particularly in scooters.
For this reason, Honda will raise the production capacity of overseas affiliate from the current 6.4 million units to 7 million units by 2020.
