JFE Steel announced on March 5, 2020 that it had started operation of a steel plant for automobiles that was being constructed in Mexico with US steel manufacturer, Nucor. The new plant was built by NUCOR-JFE STEEL MEXICO, half and half stake by JFE Steel and Nucor. The annual production capacity is 400,000 tons. Mexico is attracting attention as a production base for automobiles exporting to the US, and demand for automotive steel sheets is expected to remain stable. This is the fourth new plant in Mexico, following China, Thailand and Indonesia.
