Makino Milling Machine launches 5-axis MC for both vertical and horizontal use

December 16, 2020

Makino Milling Machine launched the vertical 5-axis machining center (MC) “D2” on December 2, 2020. The company proposes process consolidation for large-scale mold machining.

D2 adopts the double-column mechanical structure. In addition to the X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis, the W-axis that moves the crossrail up and down is arranged as the axis travel. The work table is equipped with a C-axis, and the spindle head is also equipped with two axes, A-axis and B-axis, the machine controls a total of seven axes. Since the spindle head rotates and turns, D2 can use as both a vertical MC and a horizontal MC.

D2 integrates the following two types of machining into one unit. These are the machining of vertical MC, which cuts out the molding surface of the mold, and the machining of horizontal MC, such as drilling the side surface of the mold and piping holes for cooling water.

The maximum workpiece size is 2100 in diameter x 1700 mm in height, and the maximum loading weight is 10 tons. The company also offers automation equipment such as an automatic pallet changer (APC) as an option.
