OSG corporation, one of the major global cutting tool maker, has renewed Shinshiro Factory in Shinshiro City, Aichi Prefecture to “NEO Shinshiro Factory” that realizes high-mix low-volume production by utilizing digital technologies.
OSG completed all construction of NEO Shinshiro Factory on October 2, 2020. It was for the first time in 30 years to renovate its main factories in Japan.
The company combines grinding technology with the latest digital technology.
OSG produces 5400 types of carbide drills, carbide taps, high-speed drills, and high-speed end mills, and 7700 lots per month. The maximum production capacity is 6,000 types, 8,000 lots, and more than 700,000 units per month. About 600 people work at the NEO Shinshiro Factory.
OSG has been proceeding with a project “OSG.4.0” that unifies various information on the production process into a data management system. OSG applied the project to the Shinshiro factory, too.
OSG digitizes the information of production, quality, and equipment maintenance, which leads to reduction of production waste, ensuring traceability, and predictive maintenance. Besides, the company collectively manage grindstones, jigs and tools, and programs in order to increase the facility utilization rate. OSG also introduced a new management system.
