FANUC developed a robot system for dissimilar metal welding with Kobe Steel

On April 19, 2018, FANUC announced that they developed a robotic system with Kobe Steel which can firmly weld different metal such as ultrahigh strength steel sheets and aluminum with.

In the automotive industry, there is high demand for joining ultra-high steel sheets and aluminum in order to reduce the weight of the vehicle body.

However, it was difficult to maintain the strength of the joint due to the difference in melting points between the two metals, and that is why the joint was difficult.

In response, Kobe Steel developed own welding technology for joining different metals last year. The automation of welds has been achieved in conjunction with FANUC robotic technologies and Kobe steel news welding technology.
