July 30, 2026

New all-time high reached

The Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association (JMTBA) released the final machine tool orders for June 2026. Total orders reached JPY 203.3 billion, surpassing JPY 200 billion for the first time and breaking the previous all-time high of JPY 193.5 billion set in March by nearly JPY 10 billion.

YoY growth continued for the 12th consecutive month, with the growth rate remaining above 20% throughout the year so far, underscoring continued strong momentum.

With capital investment remaining robust worldwide, machine tool orders appear to have moved from a gradual recovery phase into an expansion phase.

Domestic orders exceed JPY 55 billion for the first time in 48 months

Domestic orders totaled JPY 58.0 billion, exceeding JPY 55 billion for the first time in 48 months and rising YoY for the sixth consecutive month.

Demand related to semiconductor manufacturing equipment and data centers gained further momentum, boosting orders in the “Industrial Machinery” and “Electrical & Precision Machinery” sectors.

“Motor Vehicles” also posted strong growth, driven by replacement of aging equipment and expanded production of popular vehicle models, with orders exceeding JPY 15 billion for the first time in seven years and three months.

Foreign demand reaches a new all-time high

Foreign orders totaled JPY 145.3 billion, up more than 50% YoY and setting a new all-time high, the first record since March.

In North America, large-scale aerospace orders continued alongside strong demand from job shops, energy-related industries, and construction machinery manufacturers, with orders exceeding JPY 40 billion for the first time in two months.

In Europe, orders in Germany remained somewhat sluggish due to delays in administrative procedures, falling below JPY 20 billion for the second consecutive month. Meanwhile, capital investment demand remained steady in southern Europe and other EU countries, while trading companies and local subsidiaries continued to build inventory.

In Asia, China exceeded JPY 55 billion for the first time, setting a new all-time high. India exceeded JPY 9 billion for the first time in three months, while South Korea and Taiwan also posted solid results. Asia as a whole surpassed JPY 80 billion for the first time.
