DMG MORI adds mill-turn variant INH 63 FD to lineup of horizontal 5-axis machining centers

DMG MORI announced on August 27 the addition of the “INH 63 FD,” a mill-turn table variant, to the “INH 63” horizontal 5-axis machining center lineup launched in 2023.

In production environments such as aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing, the need for increasingly complex part geometries, higher precision, high-mix low-volume production, and stable continuous operation over extended periods is growing. The INH series is a horizontal machining center that leverages proprietary technology to efficiently produce a diverse range of workpieces.

The newly added INH 63 FD builds on the INH series’ fundamental structure and incorporates a mill-turn table capable of turning operations, addressing the growing demand for further process consolidation. The mill-turn table offers a maximum rotational speed of 900 rpm and a maximum torque of 3,000 Nm. By combining milling and turning in a single machine, INH 63 FD achieves high-precision machining in a single setup. Performing turning operations — previously carried out in a separate process — on the same machine reduces setup work such as workpiece repositioning and centering, contributing to improved machining accuracy and shorter lead times.

In addition, while the INH series previously supported only FANUC numerical control (NC) units, it now also supports SIEMENS numerical control (NC) units, which are highly regarded in the European market. This makes it easier to standardize operating methods with existing equipment on the factory floor, contributing to more efficient operator training and maintenance management.

The INH 63 FD will be exhibited at the 33rd Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF), held in Tokyo from October 26 to 31.
