NTN launched its “Condition Monitoring System (CMS)” on September 2, a system that continuously monitors the condition of bearings used in industrial equipment in factories and detects early signs of abnormalities that could lead to equipment downtime. The system collects and analyzes vibration data from equipment and visualizes equipment condition in an easy-to-understand format, enabling condition assessment even with limited diagnostic experience or knowledge and contributing to stable equipment operation and more efficient maintenance.
In recent years, as manufacturing environments face growing pressure to reduce labor requirements and improve productivity, the importance of planned maintenance to prevent unexpected equipment shutdowns has increased. At the same time, an aging workforce and a shortage of maintenance engineers have created demand for systems that allow equipment conditions to be assessed without extensive experience or specialized knowledge.
NTN has previously leveraged expertise and know-how cultivated through its “Wind Doctor” condition monitoring system for wind power generation equipment to develop the compact and easy-to-use “NTN Portable Vibroscope” and the bearing diagnostic application “Bearing Inspector.” However, condition monitoring systems for general industrial equipment have faced significant barriers to adoption due to the specialized knowledge required for equipment selection and effectiveness verification.
To address these challenges, NTN has launched the CMS, which combines a newly developed edge unit for vibration data collection and analysis with the diagnostic technology of “Bearing Inspector.” The system is compatible not only with NTN bearings but also with bearings from other manufacturers and can be installed in existing equipment. NTN provides end-to-end support, from the initial equipment survey through proof-of-concept evaluation, system installation, and ongoing operation, reducing the burden of system implementation. Following installation, the system supports informed maintenance decisions by enabling early detection of abnormalities, as well as root-cause analysis based on bearing inspections and grease analysis, with recommendations for corrective action.
