Mitsubishi Electric announced on April 8, 2020 that it ranked second globally and first among Japanese companies in international patent applications in 2019. The statistics were released by Switzerland-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Mitsubishi Electric has been ranked among the top 10 in the world for patent applications by companies for the past sixth consecutive year since 2014, and the top among Japanese companies for the fifth consecutive year. Mitsubishi Electric has focused on applying for patents in the field of solutions utilizing IoT and AI in the recent years.
