On November 16, 2017, Mitsubishi Electric announced plans to begin industrial robot production at its Changshu plant in Jiangsu Province, China. The site currently manufactures factory automation (FA) equipment, such as servomotors.
The company plans to construct a new robot manufacturing line in the plant’s second building, with operations scheduled to begin in June 2018.
With the new production line, Mitsubishi Electric will manufacture industrial robots at two locations: Changshu and Nagoya, Japan. This expansion will increase the company’s overall robot production capacity by 1.5 times compared to fiscal year 2016 levels.
The move is intended to respond to growing automation demand in China and global markets.
