On February 12, 2021, Yano Research Institute released its report on the global collaborative robot market for 2020.
According to the report, global shipments of collaborative robots in 2020 fell sharply by 87.9% year-on-year, reaching 25,474 units. On a monetary basis, the market declined by 89.7%, totaling 89.8 billion yen. The drop was attributed to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and U.S.-China trade tensions.
Despite the 2020 decline, Yano Research forecasts that the global collaborative robot market will recover and expand significantly, reaching 102,378 units and 223.1 billion yen in 2030.
The report highlights that the adoption of technologies such as IoT, AI, and 5G will enable collaborative robots to enter new application fields. As more companies enter the market, parts costs are expected to decline, making collaborative robots more affordable. By 2030, the average price of collaborative robots is projected to fall to approximately 30% of the 2020 level.
