Okuma establishes production facility in Changzhou city, China(1/2)

Shortening delivery time for small and medium-sized companies

Okuma establishes machine tool production subsidiary in Changzhou city, China.

The CNC lathes and vertical machining centers, which are popular among SMEs in China, will be assembled. The total investment is 880 million yen. It will be operated on a monthly production of 10 units in October 2019, and the monthly production will be increased to 75 units by 2022.

The new plant is located approximately 160 km west of Shanghai

Okuma will establish a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary in Changzhou city. The company name is Okuma (Changzhou) Machine Tool. An investment agreement was made on April 12, 2019 with the Wujin National High-Tech Industry Development Zone Management Committee.

The new plant will be established in Changzhou City’s Wujin National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. The Changzhou Wujin National High-Tech Industry Development Zone is located approximately 160 km west of Shanghai, about one hour by high-speed rail.

Changzhou city is a traffic hub in central China that is easily accessible to Nanjing city and Hangzhou city.

Okuma will lease a part of the existing buildings in the the Wujin National High-Tech Industry Development Zone, repairing the interior of the existing building, and will use it as an exclusive assembly plant. Okuma will manufacture CNC lathes GENOS-L and vertical MC GENOS-M, which are positioned as global strategic machines in Okuma. In China, orders have recently slowed, but demand for these models has grown. Okuma intends to expand its client base by selling GENOS Series and them to expand sales of high-end machines in the future.
